iPhone 3G, can has one

I was one of those crazy fanboys that was up early on July 11th 2008 to collect what has been called the “Jesus Phone”. I went to Centro Colonnades mall at around 6.30 am on the morning of the iPhone 3G launch. There was 8 people already there waiting outside the doors to get in. This was a good sign as I was practically guaranteed to get a phone.

The ‘mob’ ran into the mall and went to the Optus World store which had a line barrier and of all things a Weslo Security guard, a little over the top for 8 people. I had a priority pass to get first in line which made me the first person to walk out of the store with the iPhone in hand and wallet noticeably lighter.

Then I went to Gloria Jeans Coffee shop to use their WiFi to activate my phone. I had taken my Macbook Pro with me so I just hooked it all up and sat back and activated my phone while having a much needed coffee. Since I chose to not activate in store I had to deal with Indian after Indian on the phone as I rang Optus Support to get it registered.

Anyway by 9am I had an activated iPhone. As I was walking out I went past the Optus store to see a larger line and some of the same people still in the store when I was in line.

Anyway the phone is what it says it does and is absolutely amazing. The Maps and Email being my favourites as they work exceedingly well. I got a free month of data with Optus so im using the phone to its full potential without data restraints. Only one downside, greasy finger marks on the screen leads to constant cleaning.
